CONOCOPHILLIPS LUBRICANTS NAMES DOWNS ENERGY TOP TIER MARKETER

Corona, Calif., Based Distributor Receives Distinguished Status for Excellence in Best Practices

 

HOUSTON (April 2, 2008) ─ConocoPhillips Company, the fourth largest U.S. lubricants supplier, today announced that Downs Energy in Corona, Calif., has achieved Top Tier Marketer status for exceeding quality, safety and environmental operations standards.  The elite recognition is awarded to a select number of ConocoPhillips Lubricants distributors that have exceeded the company's rigorous Marketer Operations Standards practices, which were created to help protect the product quality of the ConocoPhillips Lubricants brands and improve the efficiency of safety and environmental programs, according to Gary Balzhiser, manager of commercial lubricants.

 

"We are very proud of Downs Energy and the exceptional work they have done," said Balzhiser.  "Downs Energy has proven to be extremely successful in achieving the high operation and quality standards of ConocoPhillips Lubricants and will be joining an elite group of Marketers from across the country that share this distinguished recognition."

 

Top Tier status was introduced to ConocoPhillips Lubricants distributors as part of new Marketer Operations Standards guidelines set by the company.  The standards are based on strict American Petroleum Institute (API) recommended practices set forth to ensure oil and lubricants distributors meet all expectations for product quality control and that all lubricants operations are conducted in a safe and environmentally acceptable manner.

Lubricants Marketers that receive and distribute bulk oil are eligible for Top Tier status consideration.  Top Tier status is also required for a Marketer to be approved for blending oils, packaging grease and railroad engine oil handling.

Alternative Fuels Station Set to Break Ground

April 3, 2008 in Temecula, CA

Temecula, CA (March 7, 2008) – Downs Energy, a local petroleum distribution and marketing company headquartered in Corona, CA, announced it will be holding an official "Ground Breaking" ceremony of a Liquefied/Compressed Natural Gas (L/CNG) fueling station located at 27985 Diaz Road in Temecula, CA on Thursday April 3, 2008 at 10:00am.

According to Mike Downs, President of Downs Energy, the L/CNG fueling station is part of the Interstate Clean Transportation Corridor (ICTC) development project. The ICTC is a planned network of alternative fuel dispensing stations along key roadways that serve associated alternative fuel vehicle (AFV) fleets that move freight between cities and states in the Western United States. The goal of the ICTC Project is to mobilize and concentrate public and private resources to maximize the commercial viability of clean, alternative fuel trucks in goods movement. The ICTC is the first economically sustainable and most successful planned clean fuel corridor of its kind in the nation.

"We are delighted to be a participant and contributor to the successful development of the ICTC in Southwest Riverside County" said Downs. "With the ICTC's vision and leadership, we were able to secure over $1.1 Million in critical grant funding from key support agencies; including, the California Energy Commission (CEC), Mobile Source Air Pollution Reduction Review Committee (MSRC), South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD), Riverside County and the City of Temecula, to make this alternative fuel site a reality and expand the ICTC's L/CNG fuel site network in Southern California."

City and County officials scheduled to participate at the April 3, 2008 Ground Breaking ceremony include; City of Temecula Mayor, Micheal S. Nagar, Dean Saito, AQMD,  representatives for Third District County of Riverside Supervisor Jeff Stone, Mark Stanley, Director Planning, Riverside Transit Authority and Temecula Assistant City Manager, Aaron Adams.

"The collaboration and support between local government agencies, clean air and alternative fuel advocates and Downs Energy is exemplified in our company's ability to deliver this valuable public/private sector project to the community," said Downs. In the process, we have taken another step in advancing alternative fuel viability in Southwest Riverside County, while simultaneously doing our part to better local air quality and the communities we serve."
