Downs Energy is a nationwide leader in the marketing, distribution and transportation of petroleum products to commercial, industrial and retail customers. 

The company is one of the few petroleum product transportation and distribution companies in the United States to attain ISO 9001:2000 certification from the International Standards Organization for their quality management systems.

The Downs Companies have been endorsed by the National Biodiesel Accreditation Commission as the only certified BQ-9000 Marketer in California.

Downs Energy is a member of the Commercial Fueling Network, CFN, which allows Downs Energy customers to use the Downs Fuel Card at over 3,500 locations nationwide.

Downs Energy is a third-generation family-owned business. The firm’s founder, Elvin Downs, began work for Standard Oil (not Chevron) in 1940 as a wholesale distributor in Corona, California. He was in the oil business for more than 50 years.

In 1976 his son John Downs launched a key lock operation to sell fuel to trucking companies 24 hours a day. John’s children, Sharon Downs Messner and Mike Downs, joined the company in the ‘80’s and now operate the Downs Companies, which are still headquartered in Corona.

Today the Downs Companies three-fold operations are:

• Selling fuel through the CFN card lock program at 3,500 locations nationwide
• Sale of the full line of ConocoPhillips products
• Sale of bulk gasoline and diesel from four locations in Southern California. 

Customer service has been a hallmark of the company for all three generations.  Company president Mike Downs says, “In the commercial fueling business, you are in the business of building relationships with your customers and you want to be able to take care of their needs.  This is the core value of our company”.
